Life Is A Vapor

36, Day 72 (Written Wednesday February 22) ~ Today was a pretty emotional and sobering day. As we were leaving New Orleans for Pensacola, the Interstate 10/12 junction was backed up for miles. When we got to the cause of the traffic jam it was heartbreaking. I do not know what exactly happened, but it appeared that an 18 wheeler tanker truck and a small four door car made contact going down the interstate and the truck overturned on top of the car. I pray I’m wrong, but judging by the look of the car, there would have been little chance anyone survived. Somewhere around Pascagoula, Mississippi we saw another crash where a car was upside down on an embankment alongside the interstate. And finally between Mobile, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida we saw yet another crash.
When we arrived in Pensacola, we enjoyed Bible class with a congregation, but once services ended a call came in to the church to inform them that one of their members had fallen dead from an aneurysm a few hours before services. I don’t know the outcome of the accidents, but all of these were sobering reminders of the brevity of life. We had been enjoying such a great week of fun and fellowship in Louisiana and were heading to see more friends in Florida when we were struck with the fact that it can all be over instantly. I don’t know anything about the people in those accidents, but I imagine they were going about their normal business. They had things to do, families to take care of and places to be, and then tragedy struck out of the blue. As a family we prayed a little more fervently to say thank you for our safe travels and to ask that they continue.
